Por Yoga is NOT an acrobatic exercise.  It is a system to finetune and harmonize the body, mind, and spirit. Breathing exercises, postures, relaxation, meditation, and other techniques are taught after an analysis of each individual’s condition, therefore, it is highly effective and has a low risk of injury.

1. Integrative/Complementary/Palliative care for cancer patients at the pre-and-post stages of treatments (surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy):  Por Yoga helps prepare the body to cope up with the side effects these treatments usually bring along (such as appetite loss, bitter mouth, digestive problems, constipation, nausea, weak energy, etc.)  and also restore the body's natural resilience and immune system.  Above all, it relieves pains at the physical and mental levels.  Anxiety, stress, and various discomforts are reduced.  The patients feel more comfortable with themselves.  The quality of life is improved, for both the patients and the family members who take care of the patients.  Por Yoga is a perfect complementary treatment which can be integrated into the current state-of- art conventional treatment for a superior result. 

2. Chronic NCDs, sleep deprivation, and office syndrome sufferers:  Por Yoga helps relieve the pains and other disturbing symptoms, and enable the body and mind to function the way they should do.  In yogic science, it is believed that illnesses and discomforts happen because of the imbalance, disharmony, and blockage in some areas either in the body or the mind, or both.  For example, diabetes happens because of the disharmony in the liver function, therefore, it manifests in the form of diabetes.  Blood pressure related diseases happen because of the restless mind (stress), blockage in the cardio-vascular system, blockage in the respiratory system, imbalance diet, therefore, it manifests in the forms of hyper-tension or hypo-tension.  Sleep deprivation happens because the brain functions in an imbalance way - it is active all the time which might be a result of restless mind and/or abnormal hormonal secretion.  Practice of breathing exercises, postures, relaxation, meditation, and mindful diet loosens the muscles' stiffness and pains, eliminates the blockages at the joints and various organs, as well as in the mind and emotion.  These practices open the ways for the blood and lymphatic circulation systems to get access to perform their functions of cleaning, wastes & toxins disposal, and cell nourishment effectively.  At mental level, they clean and clear the busy mind and unuseful thoughts, and bring back the brain's and glands’ normal functions. Right techniques and correct practice of breathing exercises, postures, relaxation, meditation, and mindful diet loosens the muscles' stiffness and pains, remove the blockages at the joints, and calm the mind.  Body and mind are inter-related.  Sometimes, the diagnosis of symptom by merely focusing at the particular problematic part of the body alone cannot completely solve the problem.  Por Yoga is a holistic health approach and believes that treating the body and mind as a whole single system is a way towards an ultimate good health and wellbeing.  

4.  Yoga for child development (including kids with epilepsy and short of concentration):  Por Yoga helps fine-tune the electrical system of the body and the brainwave.  Through a combination of various yogic techniques, the body and mind are relaxed and calmed down. Concentration and peace come in. The body temperature becomes normal (not heated).  The body's electrical system runs smoothly without any hiccup. At this stage, kids become more receptive to the corrective and re-constructive exercises. They can sit still and follow the instructions with concentration and of course, with fun and laughter. Development of physical strength, good habits and disciplines are incorporated at the optimal level. Medicine intakes are gradually reduced as their conditions are improved.   At school, they have more concentration in class and are receptive to receive the inputs fed by the teachers.  At home, they can focus on doing their homework.

5.  Persons with stress, restless mind, depression:  Por Yoga offers several yogic meditation techniques which helps eliminate stress & tensions, and calm the mind.  Each person has different temperament.  You might have tried several meditation techniques and still could not find the one that most fits your temperament. Por Yoga can help. From a scientific point of view, there are numerous evident-based researches which show that some meditation techniques create the alpha wave which by itself relaxes the brain as well as stills the mind.  First, Por Yoga enables the persons to be able to sit comfortably for a sufficient time, to be aware of the breathing rhythm, and to build up the strength of respiratory organs.  Second step is to do the mental scanning in a natural way in order to embark on a meditation journey smoothly with satisfactory results - the stress and depression are gradually eliminated and the life momentum is returned. Various sound vibrations are joyfully used to steer the soothing brainwaves.  It should be noted that the practice of meditation SHOULD NOT double the stress for the practitioner.  If this feeling is happening to you, it means you are on a wrong road.

Humanitarian aid workers and disaster victims who have experienced or witnessed the terrifying situations e.g. in a war zone area unknowingly store such extreme experiences in their minds and memories.  The symptoms may start soon or may not appear until years after the event. The flash-back causes an explosion in the mind and is shown through various behaviours and actions, which can create the problems in social or work situations as well as in relationships, and deteriorate the physical conditions such as sleep deprivation and various forms of addictions.  Por Yoga enables the sufferers to overcome such difficulties and to continue their lives with the present moment through various techniques such as breathing exercise to still the mind, deep psychic relaxation, sound therapy, meditation, positive thinking, and self-love.  With the peer and family supports, these techniques will bring out the positive results for all.

How long do I have to take Por Yoga class in order to feel better?

Only 1 class is sufficient to tell if Por Yoga is the right practice for you.

If practice correctly, the student should feel light head, light body, relaxed, and revitalized at the end of each class.  Natural muscle pain may happen but it will disappear by itself.
