“The rhythm of the body, the melody of the mind,
and the harmony of the soul create the symphony of life.”
The science of yoga is like the art of music. There is a rhythm within the body, and that can only be maintained by paying attention to each step of asana, and to the progression between asanas. In your practice of yoga, there has to be a physical, physiological, psychological, and spiritual rhythm. Unless there is harmony and melody, the music will not be worth listening to.
For the new beginners with uncultured minds, they have to learn that at first asanas are practiced at the level of the anatomical body alone. The beginner’s stage is important and should not be hurried through. Once you achieve certain degree of flexibility and stability, you will enter into an intermediate stage in which the mind is affected by changes in the body, and late arrive at the advanced level of dynamic meditation.
(Ref: B.K.S. Iyengar)
Notes: "....intermediate stage in which the mind is affected by changes in the body", such changes are, for examples, a situation when your mind can easily come to peace, and/or you can sit crossed-leg for meditation for a longer period of time without pain and that makes you want to meditate for a longer period of time. "Dynamic meditation" means the holding of certain postures for certain period of time while practicing asanas. It is necessary to get an advice from an experienced and knowledgeable instructor as the posture holding period is subject to the each person's condition plus pre-cautions and standard limits. Holding some postures for too long time can bring damage to your health.
